The PLC’s communicate over ControlNet via copper / fiber-optics and the HMI interface with the
PLC’s over EtherNet / fiber-optics.
The PLC design includes dedicated, redundant PLC’s with segregated functionality for:
• Emergency Support Systems (ESS)
• Process Control Systems (PCS)
Segregation of the ESS & PCS hardware / software functions is accomplished per the following:
End devices are wired to intermediate, dedicated Instrument Junction Boxes (IJB) tagged by
function (e.g.: IJBE for ESS & IJBP for PCS).
Multi-Pair home run cables from each IJBE and / or IJBP are routed to Local Control Panels (LCP)
that allow for consolidation of I/O and communications to the PLC redundant processors located in
the Master Control Panel (MCP) located in the Topsides Control Center (TCC).
Segregated, redundant ControlNet & Ethernet are provided in true ring configurations that allow for
redundant communications paths.
HMI screens are available at the LCP for local monitoring and testing.
Other than specific logic requirements, the ESS and PCS PLC’s / HMI function identically.
Any / all HMI screens allow for the viewing of any / all PLC data – regardless of source (e.g.: Sub
sea, Hull, and / or Topsides). |
