The Winch Monitoring and Control System is designed for mobile rigs (ie the Bideford Dolphin) and the purpose of the system is to measure and record the Anchor Wire Tension, Wire Length and Wire Speed of the rig mooring wires whilst in operation.

Two Load cells under each Winch are rated to 200 metric Tonnes. The forces imposed on the 2 Load cells are transformed to electrical signals, and sent to the Corner PLC, where the electrical signals are processed and converted into engineering units and displayed as tension in the wire, in metric Tonnes. 

The status of each Anchor and Winch is sent to the Central Computer in the Control Room. The central PC has Strainstall’s bespoke software system run under a Windows XP operating system. This document describes all functions and facilities for the correct operation of the system.

The Corner Computer has Strainstall bespoken system, PLC software, run under Moeller XSoft and the Touch Display XV340-10TVB-1-10-1 operating system. This document enables and describes all functions and facilities for the correct operation of the system.
